hat is the pathophysiology of cornea ?
there is a corneal epithelium bowmans layer stroma descendants membrane endothelium
there is a disruption in the corneal epithelium
the micrograms enters - enter through the bowman layer into the corneal stroma - necrosis and inflammation - process is QUICK -RAPID DIAGNOSIS
symptoms for bacterial keratitis ?
pain
purulent secretion
PHOTOPHOBIA
decrease vision
signs - corneal thinning hypopyon - inflammatory cells seen in anterior chamber descements folds CHEMOSIS ulcer seen as a -GREYISH WHITISH PLAQUE
complication of bacterial keratitis?
glaucoma
synechia - iris adheres to the lens or the cornea
perforation of the cornea !!!- endopthalmitis
diagnosis fo bacterial keratitis ?
corneal scarping - culture
treatment to bacterial keratitis ?
broad spectrum antibiotics - moxifloxacin- 4th gen
secondary glaucoma - azetozolamide
perforation of cornea - - surgery
why does fungal keratitis occur ?
fungal containing wood into the eye
aspergillus , candida albicans
symptoms of fungal keratitis ?
usually asymptomatic
signs for fungal keratitis
cornea is a white grey infiltrate with feathery borders
satellite lesion
hypopyon
diagnosis of fungal keratitis ?
same as bacterial
complication of fungal keratitis ?
same as bacterial
what is the treatment to fungal keratitis ?
anti fungal drugs - amphotericin B
