- economic integration
the top 4 countries in 2015 were Singapore, Switzerland, USA and Ireland
AT Kearney World Cities Index
measures how economically successful cities are
main factors are “business activities”, “cultural experience”, “political engagement”
most successful cities in 2016 - London, New York, Paris, Tokyo and Hong Kong
KOF Index of Globalisation
calculated using indicators from economic, social and political globalisation
e.g. trade as a % of GDP (e), the degree of tourism (s) and number of international organisations to which a country is a member (p)
BUT
the data is not regularly collected
big countries lose out as they do a lot of things domestically
2016 RESULTS
13 out of the top 15 are European which contrasts with GDP tables (USA) and manufacturing outputs (China)
China, USA & UK are not in the top 15 most globalised countries BUT
China and USA have large domestic markets but internal connects are not recorded by the KOF index
Some internal areas of China & America are not well connected with the rest of the world
