Q

What key ideas were there from Mein Kampf?

A

A Master Race: The superiority of the Aryan race (peoples of northern Europe). This linked with the idea of anti-Semitism, that the Jews were leading a conspiracy to undermine the Aryan race.

Nationalism: Hitler had visions of a greater Germany that would include all ethnic Germans. This would need lebensraum so that the Aryan population could expand.

Volksgemeinschaft or People’s Community: A community of people who shared a common race and would work for the good of each other. Germany’s wealth must benefit German working people, not the rich.

Anti-Communism: He focused on the Jewishness of communism and saw it as an international Jewish conspiracy. He claimed democracy is weak and Germany needed one leader to organise everything.

Q

In 1928, the Nazis only got 12 seats. Why did they get 20 less than in 1924?

A

Stresemann did a great job with the economy and people were not looking towards extreme parties

Stresemann had restored confidence in Germany on an international stage

In 1925, Hindenburg became president, he had been a commander in WWI and so was popular with more conservatives and nationalistic Germans
