Mental or visual picture of the countryside
Rural population
People living in the countryside in farms, isolated houses, hamlets and villages.
Gentrification
Migration of people from a high socio-economic class into poorer ares. Allowing a spiral of development to arise.
Green belt
Ara of open land retained around a city or town over which there are wide-ranging planning restrictions upon development
Key village
Village designated to be developed in terms of goods and services available to its population and the one of surrounding areas.
Rural depopulation
Decrease in population of rural areas.
Urabanisation of poverty
Increasing concentration of poorer areas.
Urban hierarchy
Grouping together urban areas into distinctive levels of functional importance.
Town
Centre of population and business. Next step after a village.
Village
Group of houses and other buildings (services). Larger than a hamlet but smaller than a town.
Metropolitan village
Village that has been transformed into a commuter settlement due to its proximity to a large urban area.
Hamlet
Very small rural settlement .

Less Economically Developed Country
MEDC
More Economically Developed Country.
