Population policy
When a government has a stated aim on an aspect of its population and it undertakes measure to achieve that aim
Pro-natalist policy
Population policy that aims to encourage more births through the use of incentives.
Anti-natalist policy
Population policy designed to limit fertility through the use of both incentives and deterrents.
Family planning programme
Programme to regulate the number and spacing of children in a family. Through the practice of methods of birth control.
Sterilisation
Preventing pregnancy by cutting or blocking tubes from a woman’s ovaries or cutting the tubes that carry sperm in a man.
Abortion
Termination of a pregnancy by the removal or expulsion from the uterus of a foetus or embryo, causing its death.
Centrally planned economy
Economic system in which the state or worker’s councils manage all aspects of the economy.
Civil liberties
Rights and freedoms that protect an individual from the state.
Selective abortion
Performed because of the gender of the foetus or when an undesirable trait is detected.
Social norms
Rules for how people should act in a given group or society.
