Annual awards - annual
Awards for meritorious actions - recognition of specific instances of an outstanding performance/achievements, or other special criteria
Special recognition awards - recognition of other specific criteria
Where are nominations made?
Department SharePoint “awards” site
What should be included in a nomination for meritorious action awards? When should these be submitted?
Nomination should include actions performed in the circumstances surrounding them
Nomination should be as close as possible to the event that occurred
Who determines the level of award for meritorious action?
Awards committee
What supervisory positions are required to make at least one nomination?
Assistant, Chiefs, Director
Deputy 1 (each platoon)
Administrative deputy chiefs
Supervising battalion/deputy chief
Where are the three locations an award can be found once presented?
With the recipient of the award
In the members personnel file
Framed copy at the members assigned Firestation/administrative assignment for display on the wall of recognition
What does each recipient of the Maltese cross receive?
The SFD ‘s Maltese cross medal
What does each recipient of the medal of valor receive?
The SFD ‘s medal of valor, and her name inscribed on the honor roll at Department headquarters

Both uniform and non-uniform members who have served at least 20 years and are eligible for retirement
