3. Neurotech Flashcards
Cognitive Control clin/nonclin targets
clinical targets (ADHD/addiction/pain)
nonclinical (students/soldiers)
Memory clin/nonclin targets
clinical targets (alzheimers)
nonclin (students)
memory deletion (PTSD/painful memories)
3 methods for cog enhancements
Pharmacology - broad target brain/body, target NT, dependent on individual baseline level
Cog training - doesnt really work, improve working memory, memory palace, mostly help old people
Neurostimulation - invasive ECOG/deepbrain, noninvasive TMS/electrical scalp
- neurostim entorhinal improves spatial memory (not hippo)
Other things: TMS for depression, BCIs, surgical mapping, stimulate go/stop for parkinsons
4 emerging tech
optogenetics in humans, neurofeedback, precision fMRI, neuromarketing
Neuromarketing
consumer EEG/eye track/facial expression response to ads
measure emotion/memory/att’n and improve ads for behavioral change (can be used for good too in social change ads)
Ethical problems (6)
Effectiveness (lots dont work)
Coercion (employers mandating, severance)
Privacy (neurorights, what it sold/tracked)
Distributive justice (will everyone have/afford)
Agency (change what is perceived, arkangel)
Personhood (is uploading consciousness being human)
