some can attach and direct epithelial cells to term them up by endocytosis e.g. Salmonella (more later)
exploitation of antigen sampling process e.g.
Shigella gets taken up by M cells in intestine and delivered to macrophage by transcytosis. macrophage takes up the bacteria by endocytosis
when Shigella is in the macrophage what happens
induces apoptosis of macrophage and escapes. then attaches to specific receptor at base of intestinal cell and directed endocytosis. grows and can spread to adjacent cells
bacteria that avoid complement are called
serum resistant
serum resistant bacteria bind
complement component factor H. Factor H inactivates any C3b that bind to bacterial cell which inhibits the complement system
