3 Humerus Flashcards
Where is the humerus found>?
The upper arm
What dies the humerus join?
The glenohumeral joint to the forearm
What does the humerus articulate with?
Proximal: gelnoid fossa of scapula
Distal: radius and ulna to form elbow joint
What are the six proximal features of the humerus?
Head of the humerus
Anatomical neck
Surgical neck
Greater tubercle
Lesser tubercle
Intertuburcular groove
Where is the greater tubercle located?
Proximal and lateral to lesser tubercle
What is the function of the tubercles of the humerus?
Attachment for roattor cuff muscles
SIT - greater
Subscapularis - lesser
What is between the tubercles?
Intertubercular groove, where long head of biceps brachii attaches
What attches to edges of intertuburcular groove?
Tendon of pectoralis major
Tendon of teres major
Tendon pf latissimus dorsi
What bony landmarks are on the shaft of the humerus?
Deltoid tuberosity
Radial tuberosity
Act as attchement site for muscles
What is the deltoid tuberoisty located?
Roughened surface on lateral surface of humeral shaft
Where deltoid muscle attaches
What is the radial groove?
Shallow depression diagonally down posterior surface of humerus parallel to deltoid tuberosity
Where radial nerve and profunda brachii artery lie
What muscles attach to the anterior of the shaft of the humerus?
Corachobrachialis
Deltoid
Brachialis
Brachioradialis
What muscles attach to the posterior of the shaft of the humerus?
Medial head of triceps brachii
Lateral head of triceps brachii
What is on the distal borders of the humerus?
Lateral supra-epicondylar ridge (more roughened)
Medial supra-epicondylar ridge
What is the function of the lateral supra-epicondylar ridge?
Attachment site for many extensor muscles in posterior forearm
What is immediately distal to the supra-epicondylar ridges?
Medial and lateral epicondyles
Both can be palpated but medial epicondyle is larger and more easily felt
What can be palpated along posterior side of medial epicondyle?
Ulnar nerve as it enters the forearm
What is located distally and immediatley lateral to medial epicondyle?
Trochlea
What is located distally and immediatley medial to lateral epicondyle?
Capitulum
What are the three names of the depressions on the distal end of the humerus?
Coronoid fossa
Radial fossa
Olecranon fossa
What articulates with ulnar at elbow joint?
Trochlea
What articulates with radius at elbow joint?
Capitulum
