load is applied along the spine s/p load being transmitted along the entire vertebral column e.g. falling from a height and landing on feet in upright position
basilar skull fractures
usually occur following diffuse impact to the head
Battle sign
bruising behind an ear over the mastoid process that may indicate skull fracture
epidural hematoma
accumulation of blood between skull and dura mater
retrogade amnesia
inability to remember events leading up to head injury
