2.6 - Denmark Flashcards
Energy Transition (Denmark)
Industrialisation, mass transport, mass ownership but no green agenda.
Kinetic energy into electricity, cheap to build with huge offshore capacity
Lots of energy lost through transmission lines
Solar Energy
Concentrated solar power, photovoltaic, easy to maintain.
Very expensive.unreliable, high start up costs
Expensive transition lines
Look out of place in Iceland’s landscape
Rare earth minerals are needed but Iceland has these.
Hydroelectric Power (HEP)
Flowing water drives turbines creating electricity
80% of Iceland’s energy
Building dams cause erosion downstream and are ugly in the landscaoe
How Do We Decouple From Fossil Fuels?
IPCC wants to treble renewable output by 2050.
Increasing use of wind and solar
Reciprocal agreements with Denmark, Norway & Sweden to share energy production
Countries have to use government to control e.g. Denmark green taxes, building codes, investment & subsidies.
Conscience (Play With People’s Emotions)
Geographical attributes (flatland, no skyscrapers)
Consumers sacrificing in the short-term/Feed in tariffs make money back
Private investments benefit everyone.
Command COntrol
EU emission targets
Forcing spending
Carbon trending system
Taxes on diesel/petrol cars
