2.2 Study Guide Flashcards
How population growth is determined from birth, death, immigration, and emigration
The higher the rebirth rate compared to the lower death rate, means higher population growth. If it is reversed, that means negative population growth.
How do you graph a exponential graph
By having a point of origin and the graph going up forever
How do you graph a logistic graph
By having a certain point and the growth rate inclining then flattening out at the carrying capacity.
When is population growth the highest in a exponential and logistic growth
In exponential graphs, at the beginning. In logistic, half way to carrying capacity.
What does N stand for
Population size
What does N0 stand for
What does r stand for
represents Max per capita
What does K stand for
represents carrying capacity.
What does t stand for
represents time
What does dN/dt stand for
represents population rates and depends on D
What are examples of density-dependent variables
Disease, parasites, competition for water
What are examples of density-independent variables
Natural disasters
What changes in logistic growth when r, K, or N changes
With r, the rate goes up quicker. With k, the capacity is higher. With N, the population starts out higher.
