4.1 Study Guide Flashcards
Biomass
The amount there is of a certain species in a certain area.
Productivity
The rate at which a species grows it’s population.
Efficiency
How well a population grows and how well it keeps up it’s population.
Inputs + outputs –> Photosynthesis
Sunlight+ co2+h2o –> o2 + glucose
Inputs + Outputs –> Respiration
o2+ glucose –> energy + co2 + h2o
What type of organisms perform the processes of photosynthesis and cellular respiration
Plants
What is shown in a pyramid of energy vs. a pyramid of numbers vs. a pyramid of biomass
-Energy = Flow of energy
-Biomass = The shift of biomass as the levels go up
-Numbers = The shift of numbers as levels go up (can be inverted)
Apply the rule of 10 to an energy pyramid to determine the energy available at each trophic level
Producer= 200
Primary= 20
Secondary= 2
Tetiary= 0.2
Explain why it is considered more efficient to eat at a lower trophic level vs. a higher trophic level
It is more efficient because there is more things to eat than higher levels.
Predict how the amount of solar energy in a location relates to productivity
The more solar energy means the plants can grow more plentiful, the primary consumers have more plants to eat, the secondary consumers have more prey, and so on.
Predict how the amount of solar energy in a location relates to biomass
