Define the term adverse event
Any observation in animals whether or not considered to be product related that is unfavourable and unintended and that occurs after any use of a veterinary medicine
Define the term adverse reaction
A reaction to a veterinary medicine which is harmful and unintended and which occurs at doses normally used in animals for the prophylaxis, diagnosis or treatment of disease or to restore, correct or modify a physiological function

Lack of expected efficacy = beneficial effects have not been observed
Unexpected AE = nature, severity or outcome not described in the SPC
Serious AE = Death/ ^ rates of death, life-threatening clinical signs, congenital abnormalities
Non-serious AE = All others
What do you do if an adverse events occurs?
Record what happened with as much detail
Report the event electronically to the VMD within 15 days
