2 The 4 Tissues Flashcards

1
Q

Epithelial tissue

A
  • Often at the edge of tissues or surrounding them
  • They are polarised when at the surfaces
  • Always have basement membrane on the basal layer
  • May not always have a reticular layer
  • If clustered together can form a gland
  • Often secrete something from the apical surface
  • Held together by strong anchor proteins
  • Communication through lateral and basal junctions, rarely apical

Q

Nerve tissue

A
  • Primarily made up of neurons and support cells.
  • Fast communication.
  • Nerves congregate to make fibres which congregate to make nerves.

Q

Muscle tissue:
Types
Function
Secretorys

A

Types: skeletal (striated), cardiac (involuntary) and smooth (non-striated and involuntary)
Function: main function is to contract. Movement, stability and movement of tissue content.
Secrete hormones eg. Natriuretic, factors A and B, myostatins.
