2 The 4 Tissues Flashcards
1
Q
Epithelial tissue
A
- Often at the edge of tissues or surrounding them
- They are polarised when at the surfaces
- Always have basement membrane on the basal layer
- May not always have a reticular layer
- If clustered together can form a gland
- Often secrete something from the apical surface
- Held together by strong anchor proteins
- Communication through lateral and basal junctions, rarely apical
2
Q
Connective Tissue
Examples?
Products?
A
Fibroblast, chondrocytes, osteocytes, osteoblasts, osteoclasts, stem cells, progenitor cells, bone marrow, adipocytes, blood.
Products: fibres, ground substances, wax/gel-like substances
3
Q
Nerve tissue
A
- Primarily made up of neurons and support cells.
- Fast communication.
- Nerves congregate to make fibres which congregate to make nerves.
4
Q
Muscle tissue:
Types
Function
Secretorys
A
Types: skeletal (striated), cardiac (involuntary) and smooth (non-striated and involuntary)
Function: main function is to contract. Movement, stability and movement of tissue content.
Secrete hormones eg. Natriuretic, factors A and B, myostatins.
