what can confucianism be described as
ideaolgy, religion, philosophy, etc
confucious was
-an advisor
-traditional
-wanted life to be like how it was during zhao dynasty
-ppl should be kind
was Confucius a well known advisor
no because no one believed in his philosophy at that time
confucious was traditional because
he lived during the civil war so he had lots of opinions of how people could interact (social contract) for sake of peace
how did confucious desire society to be
he wanted order and stability again so society would be harmonious
what were conficuous thoughts on friends and leader
friends should be kind and leaders be good to ppl

how did Confucius become influential/someone who guided china politics?
because of his ideolgies about govt
mandate of heaven
if a ruler became a ruler he would have received a mandate from heaven (he is supposed to be there)
what happens if a leader is bad under mandate of heaven
if a ruler is bad and doe not focus on the ppl, ppl can rise up and overthrow him (not a traditional idea) resembles Locke’s idea of enlightenment
what did confucious think was key
education
-education is associated with a lot of positive attributes. After education, you can elevate yourself with jobs and socioeconomic status
no man is an island means
cant say you are just me because as humans we are all interrealted
civil service exam system (starting in 6th centur)
-helped choose gov officials
-based on Confucian teaching
-concept of mediocracy (not hereditary)
-3-tiered system
advantages and disadvantages of civil service exam system
-not everyone can ace it (have to already have higher stats)
-lack diversity
-pass exam but how is their character
-anyone has a chance
-provides hope
