1B scientific research methodologies Flashcards
investigation methodologies
different processes or techniques and the types of studies researchers use to obtain information about the psychological phenomena
controlled experiment
type of investigation in which the causal relationships between 2 variables is tested in a controlled environment (the effect of IV has affected DV)
case study
type of investigation of an individual, group, or particular phenomenon that contains a real or hypothetical situation and includes the complexities that would be encountered in the real wold
correlational study
a type of non- experimental study in which researchers observe and measure the relationship between 2 or more variable without manipulation
classification and identification
the arrangement of phenomena, objects or events into manageable sets
process of recognition as belonging to a particular sets or possibly being part of a new or unique set.
fieldwork
any research involving observation and interaction with people and environment in real-world settings, conducted beyond the laboratory.
literature review
A literature review involves gathering and analyzing existing research to understand a topic or prepare for further investigation.
modelling
Creating or adjusting models, whether physical or conceptual, to represent objects or systems for understanding or simulation.
Product, process, or system development
the design or evaluation
of an artefact, process, or system to meet a human need, which may involve technological applications, in addition to scientific knowledge and procedures
simulation
a process of using model to study the behaviour of a real or theoretical system.
experimental group
exposed to a manipulated IV
control group
group who reactive no experimental treatment
within subject
experimental design in which participants complete every experimental condition
between subject design
an experimental group which individuals are divided into different groups and complete only one experimental condition
mixed design
an experimental design which combines elements of within subjects and between subject designs
