Academies
Specialist schools
Faith school
EMA
Aim higher
ROSLA- raising of school leaving age
Ao1 academies
This has been a fresh start and a new investment inn struggling underperforming schools which were in deprived areas
The Academy would also get extra money because the money was paid directly to the school rather than the local authority taking a cut
This mean they had more power to spend their money as they wish and channel it into what the pupils really needed
This aims to improve outcomes for working class Pupils also creating diversity and choice in the system
Ap3 academies
This is a way of prioritising education as the focus becomes money, not learning
Alongside this, it disadvantages other schools as they can pay teachers more, so this attracts the best teachers meaning other schools suffer
Ao1 specialist schools
Secondary schools were encouraged to apply for specialist status in particular curriculum areas, for example, technology, language or humanities
This offers parents increased choice and raises standards by letting schools build on their strength
Ao3 specialist skills
This had allowed selection
Where schools can choose some of their pupils rather than accepting local children
Middle-class, usually benefit from this more than the working-class pupils
Ao1 faith, schools
These are schools which specifically cater for one faith for example, Catholic or Islamic schools
These give parents more choice, as they have the option to send their children to a school meant specifically for their faith
Also increases diversity
Ao3 faith, schools
Having separate schools for separate faith is segregation
Whilst there is diversity it can also lead to social tension which leads to weakness in society
Ao1 EMA
These are payments of up to £30 per week which were made for students from low income backgrounds who attended college to encourage them to stay in education
This would help them cover the costs of books ,transport and meals as long as they had full attendance
And bonuses for those who met their minimum target grade
Ao3 EMA
Did not encourage a significant enough number of working class pupils to stay on to further education
There had also been an introduction of tuition fees for higher education
Ap1 and Ao3
ROSLA
This was the plan to raise the school leaving age from 16 to 18 by 2015
So that 16 to 17-year-old become a neet (not in education employment or training)
Ao3
Reduces choice for students and prolongs childhood and dependency on parents
