16m biop Flashcards
1
Q
AO3 FMRI
A
- low temporal resolution and research is expensive leading to low sample sizes which can reduce the validity of studies
+ BUT HAVE HIGH spatial resolution so can map out more accurately
2
Q
EEG 3 ways AO1
ESW electrode size wave
A
- EEGs THINK EEGENERAL use electrodes fixed to a participant’s scalp which detect neuronal activity directly below
where they are placed
so 1) electrodes 2 measure electrical activity brain cells & neurones & info processed from nerve impulses
2) EEG detects size frequency and intensity of electrical activity
3) 4 diff types of waves alpha, theta delta beta
3
Q
ERP 3 ways AO1
SAFO
A
- EEG gives general
- ERP use electrodes to process specific voltage changes in brain after stimulus prevent
1) specific changes in stimuli voltage changes
2) averaged many responses to this stimulus taken then averaged
3) filtered out using stat so event related potential which is jus the response is filtered out
4
Q
AO3 ERP & EEG
A
- EEG effective for diagnosing certain brain diseases such as epilepsy coz seizures r reflected in abnormal brain wave patterns
- both cheaper than fmris so can do on large sample sizes which can improve validity
- EEG high temporal validity than FMRI
- both have low spatial resolution than FMRI
5
Q
explain how use of magnet detect brain acitibyt in fmri
A
oxygen released for use by active neurones at which point haemoglobin becomes deoxygenated
deoxy blood has diff magnetic quality than oxy blood
thats what magent detects
