Q

Explain Darwin’s concept of “Survival of the Fittest”

A

The difference in rates of survival and pro production is called survival of the fittest. A species that is going to be better adapted to their environment because they are able to withstand whatever threats there are. A certain species survives and reproduces more often than others do in its environment.

16
Q

What is the result, according to Darwin, of generations of adaptations?

A

Species could evolve into a new species.

17
Q

What is Descent With Modification?

A

Living organisms are descended with modifications. This changed the adaptations through natural selection which span millions of years.

18
Q

According to Darwin, diversity of life exists because of the…

A

Old Earth Theory - species have modified over long periods of time.

19
Q

According to Darwin, all organisms, past and present, are linked together through…

A

Tree of Life

20
Q

To Illustrate the Tree of Life claim, Darwin created the very first…

A

Evolutionary Tree

21
Q

What is the Principle of Common Descent?

A

All species—living and extinct—are descended from ancient common ancestors.

22
Q

What is the Principle of Common Descent commonly referred to as?

A

Microevolution

23
Q

All living and extinct things are linked together through…

A

A single tree of life - evolution from a common ancestor.
