When discussing discrimination…
Probation staff take a specific perspective that it is not simply a direct, conscious act (personal). Rather we draw on Thompson’s (2006, 2011) model of discrimination that demonstrates it operates at multiple levels of personal, cultural and structural practices. This allows us to understand discrimination as operating indirectly through shared assumptions and practices (cultural); and macrosocial, political factors (structural) (Thompson, 2011: p. 106).
