(In addition, we worry about iron, B, and ADEK absorption in anyone with celiac disease)
A 30-year old female was recently diagnosed with celiac disease and has started on a gluten free diet. She reports that she would like to get pregnant and is asking for nutrition advice on what vitamins she needs to take to prepare her body for pregnancy. What do you suggest?
- Prenatal vitamins and a blood work to check CBC and iron panel along with serum folate, B12 and vitamin D
- Prenatal vitamins only as they are a good source of extra vitamins needed in celiac disease
