Q

What is full scale deflection for a LOC/ILS?

A

It depends on the width of the localizer course which can be up to 6 deg. Therefore, if it were 6 deg wide, 2 dots of deflection would be 3 deg on either side. 1 dot of deflection would be 1 1/2 deg on either side.

Q

How does the localizer signal work?

A

It deflects to the left when in the 150 Hz zone and to the right when in the 90 Hz zone of the localizer feather. It centers when the two signals are equal. The course set knob and course selected have no effect on the CDI display.

Q

What do range indicators display?

A

Slant range distance in NM to a DME transponder. You may consider this a horizontal distance except when the aircraft is very close to the station. It is subject to line of sight restrictions and altitude affects the reception range.
