11-217V1 Ch3 Flashcards
Do bearing pointers function for ILS systems?
No.
Full course deflection is what?
Two dots.
What does the appearance of the course warning flag indicate?
That the course indicator is not receiving a signal strong enough for reliable navigation information.;
Consider a signal reliable only if what?
Warning flag is not displayed; station ID is being received and the bearing pointer is pointing to the station.
What is full scale deflection for a LOC/ILS?
It depends on the width of the localizer course which can be up to 6 deg. Therefore, if it were 6 deg wide, 2 dots of deflection would be 3 deg on either side. 1 dot of deflection would be 1 1/2 deg on either side.
How does the localizer signal work?
It deflects to the left when in the 150 Hz zone and to the right when in the 90 Hz zone of the localizer feather. It centers when the two signals are equal. The course set knob and course selected have no effect on the CDI display.
What does the marker beacon indicate?
Proximity to a 75 MHz marker beacon transmitter. It is independent of ILS/VOR/TACAN signals.
Appearance of course or glide slope warning flags indicates what? Absence of an identifier indicates what?
The signal strength is not sufficient for the course or glide slope. The signal is unreliable.
What do range indicators display?
Slant range distance in NM to a DME transponder. You may consider this a horizontal distance except when the aircraft is very close to the station. It is subject to line of sight restrictions and altitude affects the reception range.
What is a single medium display?
Either Head-Up Display (HUD), Head-Down Display (HDD), or Helmet-Mounted Display (HMD) which display control, performance, and nav data in the pilot’s outside field of view.
What is a note about single medium displays?
The info received from HUD equipment that is not certified for sole-reference instrument flight by HQ USAF must be verified with other cockpit indications.
