11-217V1 Ch2 Flashcards
How do you accomplish an instrument takeoff?
By referring to both outside visual references and the flight instruments. Pilot shall immediately transition to instrument references any time he or she becomes disoriented or when outside visual references become unreliable.
As a rule of thumb make changes to pitch to create a VVI equal to what?
Approximately 1-2 times the amount of altitude deviation you are trying to correct.
What should you do for level offs?
Use 10% of the VVI for when to start level offs.
What is a warning about spatial disorientation?
The pilot will immediately transition to instrument references any time he or she becomes disoriented or when outside visual references become unreliable.
What if there is no minimum safe altitude in the flight manual–to what altitude should the pilot recover during an unusual attitude?
If a minimum safe altitude for unusual attitude recovery is not in the flight manual, if applicable, the pilot shall decide upon an altitude at which recovery attempts will be discontinued and the aircraft abandoned.
How should you execute a nose low recovery?
Adjust power or drag devices as appropriate, roll wings to level upright attitude, do not add back pressure until less than 90 deg of bank.
How can you deal with an unusual attitude?
1) Recognize (picture on ADI or unusual performance from instruments)
2) Confirm (looking at standbys or performance instruments)
3) Recover
How should you execute an instrument aileron roll?
15-25 deg NH, start from level flight, roll in either direction so that inverted with wings level as pass through horizon. Accomplish entire maneuver by reference to the ADI.
What’s a vertical S A?
Constant heading set of rate climbs and descents
What’s a vertical S B?
Constant angle of bank maintained during the climb and descent.
What’s a vertical S C?
Same as above except direction of turn is reversed at beginning of each descent.
What’s a vertical S D?
Same as above except that the direction of turn is reversed simultaneously with each change of vertical direction.
As a guide how should you correct heading deviations?
Bank attitude change should equal the heading deviation in degrees not to exceed 30 deg
What is the definition of a standard rate turn?
A rate at which the aircraft will make a 360 degree turn in 2 minutes (120 s)
What lead point should you use for your turns?
1/3rd of the angle of bank used
