Reactive arthritis- arthritits, urethritis, conjunctivitis
How does chlamydia affect a fetus?
Pneumonia, conjunctivitis
What indicates the need for testing in men?
Urethral discharge, urethrirtis, epididomoorchtiis, reactive arthritis, dysuria
What indicates the need for testing in woman
Vaginal discharge Intermenstrual, posit coital or breakthrough bleeding Inflamed cervix Urethritis PID lower abdominal pain reactive arthritis
What groups of people are always tested
Termination of pregnancy semen and egg donation IUD insertion Sexual partners of those with infections Others with STi
How do investigate?
Polymerase chain reaction- can be carried out in urine samples
men- first void sample of urine
woman- vaginal examination, endocervical swab or first swab
How do you treat chlamydia
Azithromycin
OR
doxycycline
How do you treat those with uncomplicated chlamydia infection in pregnancy?
urethromycin
OR
Amoxicillin
What is done on follow up?
3 month follow up test
