What is a Bartholin’s cyst?
A swelling in the Bartholin gland around the 4-8 o’clock positions. Occurs when duct becomes blocked or the gland becomes infected
How do you manage Bartholin’s cysts?
Asymptomatic- no intervention
Incision, drainage and marsupilisation (leaving a passage from cyst to outside world)
What should you look for when assessing a lump?
Attachments Consistency Size Position Edges Evidence of inflammation Tethered
What evidences of lumps suggests a malignancy?
Irregular Nodular Persistently indurated Hard Fixed
What is the treatment for asymptomatic chlamydia?
Ig Azithromycin
Describe the associated symptoms with the herpes simplex virus?
Vulval irritation, pain, feverm swelling, discharge
Blisters around the genital/anus
Cervical/vaginal ulceration
What treatment may be useful to suppress and decrease the symptoms in this condition?
Analgesia
Topical analgesia
Ice pakcs
Aciclovir
How long does herpes take to go away?
It doesn’t it is chornic
Individuals cant have sex until the symptoms have resolved
may still pass if asymptomatic
How does herpes affect pregnancy?
If recent infection C-section is indicated
What is a heamatoma?
Bleeding under the skin, generally associated with pain and swelling
May lead to urinary retention
How do you assess someone with a heamotoma
ABCDE Estimate blood loss FBC coagulation Blood group Analgesia Cathetirisation
How do you manage a heamotoma?
May be conservative with small heamtomas (under 3cm)
Drainage in larger masses to prevent death and necrosis
