  • Telephone interviews
    • Quicker, cheaper, and can be used to cull weaker candidates
    • Can be used to fact check info or verify info
  • Video interview
    • Quicker, cheaper
    • Some body language can be seen (reading notes, paying attention)
  • Panel interview
    • Decreases risk of bias
    • Can be overwhelming to candidate

What is an unstructured interview?

A
  • No set format and very informal/ casual
  • Conversation like
  • Primarily uses “open-ended” questions which allows candidate to respond to questions in depth
  • Relies heavily on interviewers “intuition” about suitability of the candidate for the job

What is a structured interview?

A
  • Questions asked in a standard order
  • Interview is not flexible (different questions cannot be asked)
  • Specific job-related questions asked
  • Answers are generally recorded and scored on a standard grid

What are some types of interview questions?

A
  • Situational -> describe a hypothetical situation, action that would be taken and discuss the consequence of the action
  • Behavioural -> describe the situation, action taken and results or impact of the actions taken
  • Job knowledge -> assess the technical or professional knowledge required to do the job
