PROPHYLACTIC TREATMENT
We try to stabilize mood and prevent crisis, often combining drugs. Normally, it was used Lithium, but due to its narrow therapeutic window, there is a recent tendency to substitute it by : Carbamazepine, Valproate, Lamotrigine and Gabapentin.
LITHIUM CARBONATE
Prophylactic treatment.

PK; BA 100% (oral route), don’t bind plasma proteins, renal excretion (due to the lack of Na+).
Several symtoms are associated: nausea, thirst, hypotension, fine tremor, weight gain, gouy, hypothuroidism. Dehytration at the renal level.
