Ulnar collateral ligament
Function: resists excessive cubital valgus
Attachments: from medial epicondyle to medial margin of coronoid process and olecranon process
Radial collateral ligament
Function: resists excessive cubital varus
Attachments: from lateral epicondyle to anular ligament
Anular ligament
Function: stabilizes proximal radioulnar joint
Attachments: from anterior margin of the radial notch to posterior margin or radial notch surrounding head of radius
Interosseous membrane
Attachments: from interosseous border of radius to interosseus border of ulna
Transverse carpal ligament
Function: prevent s bowstringing of the tendons of the flexor pollicis longus, flexor digitorum superficialis and flexor digitorum profundus
Attachments: from the pisiform and hook of hamate to scaphoid and trapezium
Collateral ligaments of metacarpophalangeal joints
Function: stabilizes metacarpophalangeal joints
Attachments: from the head of metacarpals to base of adjacent proximal phalanx
Abductor pollicis longus (C6-8)
Attachments: from proximal posterior radius, ulna and interosseous membrane to the base of the 1st metacarpal and trapezium
Actions: abducts and extends thumb at carpometacarpal joint and abducts hand and wrist (radial deviation)
Innervation: radial nerve
Brachioradialis (C5-6)
Attachments: from the lateral supracondylar ridge of the humerus to the distal radius lateral to the styloid process
Actions: flexes the elbow
Innervation: radial nerve
Extensor carpi radialis brevis (C6-8)
Attachments: from the lateral epicondyle of the humerus (common extensor origin) to the base pf the 3rd metacarpal
Actions: extends and abducts hand at wrist (radial deviation)
Innervation: radial nerve
Extensor carpi radialis longus (C6-8)
Attachments: from the lateral supracondylar ridge of the humerus to the base of the 2nd metacarpal
Actions: extends and abducts hand at wrist (radial deviation) and assists in flexion of the elbow
Innervation: radial nerve
Extensor carpi ulnaris (C6-8)
Attachments: from the lateral epicondyle of the humerus (common extensor origin) to the base of the 5th metacarpal
Actions: extends and adducts hand at wrist (ulnar deviation)
Innervation: radial nerve
Extensor digitorum (C6-8)
Attachments: from the lateral epicondyle of the humerus (common extensor origin) to the extensor expansions of digits 2-5
Actions: extends phalanges (primarily at the metacarpophalangeal, secondarily at interpharangeal) and hand at wrist
Innervation: radial nerve
Extensor digiti minimi (C7-8)
Attachments: from the lateral epicondyle of the humerus (common extensor origin) to the digital expansion of the 5th digit
Actions: extends 5th digit (metacarpophalangeal and interphalangeal)
Innervation: radial nerve
Extensor indicis (C7-8)
Attachments: from the posterior surface of the ulna and interosseous membrane to the digital expansion of the 2nd digit
Actions: extends 2nd digit (metacarpophalangeal and interphalangeal)
Innervation: radial nerve
Extensor pollicis brevis (C6-8)
Attachments: from the posterior radial surface and interosseous membrane to the base of the 1st proximal phalanx
Actions: extends thumb (metacarpophalangeal) and extends and abducts CMC joint
Innervation: radial nerve
Extensor pollicis longus (C6-8)
Attachments: from the middle 1/3rdof the posterior surface of the ulna and interosseous membrane to the bsae of the 1st distal phalanx
Actions: extends thumb (CMC and metacarpophalangeal and interphalangeal)
Innervation: radial nerve
Flexor carpi radialis (C6-8)
Attachments: from the medial epicondyle (common flexor origin) to the palmar aspect of the base of the 2nd metacarpal
Actions: flexes and abducts hand at wrist (radial deviation) and may assist in pronation of forearm and flexion of the elbow
Innervation: median nerve
Flexor carpi ulnaris (C7-T1)
Attachments: from the medial epicondyle (common flexor origin) of the humerus and proximal ulnar shaft to the pisiform
Actions: flexes and adducts hand at wrist (ulnar deviation) and assists in flexion of the elbow
Innervation: ulnar nerve
Flexor digitorum profundus (C7-T1)
Attachments: from the anterior proximal 2/3rds of the ulna and interosseous membrane to the base of the distal phalanges of digits 2-5
Actions: flexion of digits 2-5 (metacarpophalangeal and distal interphalangeal and proximal interphalangeal) flexion of hand at wrist
Innervation: median (anterior interosseous nerve, 2nd and 3rd digits) and ulnar (4th and 5th digits) nerves
Flexor digitorum superficialis (C7-T1)
Attachments: from the medial epicondyle (common flexor digitorum) of the humerus to the sides of the middle phalanges of digits 2-5
Actions: flexion of digits (metacarpophalangeal and proximal interphalangeal) and hand at wrist
Innervation: median nerve
Flexor pollicis longus (C7-T1)
Attachments: from the anterior surface of the radius and interosseous membrane to the base of the distal phalanx of the thumb
Actions: flexes thumb (metacarpophalangeal and interphalangeal)
Innervation: median nerve (anterior interosseous nerve)
Palmaris longus (C7-8)
Attachments: from the medial epicondyle of the humerus (common flexor origin) to the palmar aponeurosis
Actions: flexes hand at wrist and tenses palmar fascia
Innervation: median nerve
Pronator quadratus (C8-T1)
Attachments: from the anterior surface of the distal ulna to the anterior surface of the distal radius
Action: pronates the forearm
Innervation: meadian nerve (anterior interosseous membrane)
Pronator teres (C6-7)
Attachments: from the medial epicondyle and ulnar coronoid process to lateral aspect of the radius
Actions: pronates and flexes forearm
Innervation: median nerve
