1: Plant Cell Control Center: The Nucleus and Central Dogma Flashcards
Nucleus
Contains genetic information (nuclear genome), responsible for regulating metabolism, growth, and differentiation of the cell
remainder of genetic information goes to semiautonomous organelles
- plastids
- mitochondrion
Nuclear Membrane/Envelope
Forms outer boundary of nucleus
Compartmentalizes genetic material and regulate exchange of molecules that traffic between inner and outer membranes via nuclear pores
Parts:
- inner nuclear membrane
- outer nuclear membrane
- perinuclear membrane
Nucleolus
Assembles rRNAs
consists of Large aggregate of macromolecules like rRNA genes, RNA processing enzymes, and ribosomal proteins
Breaks down at beginning of prophase and reforms during telophase when ribosomal genes become active
Plant Phenotype result
Genotype, Epigenetic chemical modifications, and environment
