(1) ATM - Aerodrome Control Flashcards
What are Aerodrome Control Towers? (1)
A unit established to provide air traffic control service to aerodrome traffic
What is Aerodrome Traffic? (1)
All traffic on the manoeuvring area of an aerodrome and all aircraft flying in the vicinity of an aerodrome
What is Vicinity of an AD? (1)
An aircraft is in the vicinity of an aerodrome when it is in, entering or leaving an aerodrome traffic circuit
What is Air Traffic? (1)
“All aircraft in flight or operating on the manoeuvring area of an aerodrome”
What is a landing area? (1)
“That part of the movement area intended for the landing or take-off of aircraft”
Runway with a displaced threshold diagram
- Pre-threshold area of runway 27 only used for take-offs on 27, would still be part of the landing area
- Can also used for the end of a landing roll on 09
What are the functions of an Aerodrome Control Tower? (6)
AD control towers shall issue information and clearances to aircraft under their control to achieve a safe, orderly and expeditious flow of air traffic on and in the vicinity of an aerodrome with the object of preventing collision(s) between:
- Aircraft flying within the designated area of responsibility of the control tower, including the AD traffic circuits
- Aircraft operating on the manoeuvring area
- Aircraft landing and taking off
- Aircraft and vehicles operating on the manoeuvring area
- Aircraft on the manoeuvring area and obstructions on that area
What functions of an AD control tower may be performed? (3)
- Aerodrome Controller
- Ground Controller
- Clearance Delivery Position
How shall information on essential local traffic be issued? (4)
- Timely manner
- Directly or through the unit providing the service
- If an ATCO judges the information is necessary in the interests of safety
- When requested by Aircraft
When shall information on essential local traffic be issued? (1)
Without delay to the departing / arriving aircraft concerned
Who may be considered as essential local traffic? (2)
which may constitute a hazard to the aircraft concerned:
- Any aircraft, vehicle or personnel on or near the manoeuvring area
- Traffic operating in the vicinity of the aerodrome
Prior to taxiing, what information should be passed? (6)
- Runway in use
- Surface wind (direction and speed)
- Pressure in use (QNH / QFE)
- Air temperature
- Visibility and/or RVR
- Correct time
Prior to Take-off, what information should be passed? (2)
- Any significant changes in wind, temp, vis, RVR
- Significant met conditions in take-off / climb off area (except if it is already known to the pilot)
Prior to entering the CCT or commencing an approach to land, what information should be passed? (3)
- Runway in use
- Surface wind (direction and speed)
- Pressure in use (QNH / QFE)
