1/31 IJOMI - Rafa Flashcards
Describe how different socket seals affect the bone - measured by histology and CBCT
Magrin et al. IJOMI
RCT
22 patients
Four groups:
* Control: spontaneous healing
* Collagen matrix (mucograft) + BioOss
* Collagen Membrane (Bio-Gide) + BioOss
* Palate punch graft + BioOss
Took trephine biopsy and CBCT 4-6 mo after grafting.
Results:
NSSD regarding buccal bone height, palatal bone height, bone ridge thickness.
SSD for ridge cross-sectional area.
Conclusion: NSSD between the groups - small sample sizes.
Compare bovine pericardium membrane versus titanium mesh for horizontal ridge augmentation of the atrophic maxilla.
Abaza et al. IJOMI
RCT
20 patients
* Pericardium + 1:1 mix of BioOss + autogenous
* Ti mesh + 1:1 mix of BioOss + autogenous
Results:
SSD in % change in bone volume –> Pericardium is 31%, titanium mesh is 63%
However, NSSD in anything else.
Only 4 mo follow-up
How does KT influence short dental implants?
Felice et al IJOMI
Parallel cohort retrospective study
110 patients with 217 implants.
NSSD between implants with adequate (2+mm) or non-adequate (<2mm) KTW.
Does splinting vs. not splinting adjacent implants have any effects?
Yi et al IJOMI
Retrospective radiographic analysis
888 implants in total Placed from 2006- 2014 in Seoul National University Dental hospital
Results:
Biologic complications in 39% of implants and 41% patients
Mechanical complications in 50% of implants
* Screw loosening: 47%
* Fractures were most common in the abutments (13%)
Conclusion: Splinted implants have higher risk for biologic complications, but lower risk for mechanical ones.
Describe how single immediate implant placement into anterior maxillary socket with facial bone defects fare over 5 years.
Zhao et al IJOMI
46 patients total
Sockets needed to have deficient buccal plate.
Immediate implants placed with GBR (using Hydroxyapatite “TianBo”, and membrane (Haiao)
CBCT taken at 0, 6mo, 5 years after surgery
Results: Examined bone loss over time
Labial bone thickness (LBT) changed by -0.5 mm over 5 years at all regions. Greatest change was -1mm at the implant platform at 5 years.
Average MBL: 0.7 mm on the mesial and distal (measured by PA’s)
Describe the systematic review on preventative antibiotic therapy for sinus elevation
Salgado-Peraivo et al. IJOMI
Systematic Review
12 studies included
Result: NSSD for using vs. not using antibiotics for sinus elevation procedures
this was because “not enough evidence was available” to either support or disprove either group.
