Why do Muslims fast?
A religious duty, learn self restraint, remember the poor
Why do Muslims give to the poor?
a religious duty, Allah wishes them to share their wealth, Muhammad himself was an orphan. Wealth belongs to Allah: they are born with nothing and die with nothing, they must use the wealth they have been blessed with to help others. Purifies them of selfishness and greed.
Why do they go on Hajj?
A religious duty, see the holiest place in Islam: the Ka’ba, follow in footsteps of Muhammad, gain purity and forgiveness from Allah, faith is strengthened
Why do they pray?
religious duty, remember Allah constantly in their lives, helps them lead a good life
Why is the mosque important?
Safe, clean place to pray, meet other Muslims regularly, place of learning
What rituals do they do on Hajj?
Put on ihram, circle the Ka’ba 7 times, run between the two hills, drink from well of zamzam, pray at Arafat, throw pebbles at 3 pillars, sacrifice an animal
Key Events in Muhammad’s life?
Whilst praying in a cave, Muhammad experienced his first revelation from Allah via the Angel Gabriel
His departure from Makkah to Madinah is seen as the beginning of the Islamic calendar
He built the first mosque in Madinah
He defeated the unbelievers of Makkah and restored the Ka’ba to the worship of one God
