What is marriage?
The legally and religiously recognised union of two people as partners in a personal relationship.
What does sanctity mean?
Something that is holy or sacred.
What is cohabitation?
Living together as partners and having a sexual relationship without being married.
What does marital refer to?
Something that refers to the married relationship of a couple.
What does unitive mean?
Results in a union - used to refer to marriage or sexual relationships.
What does procreative refer to?
Results in the production of children.
What is homosexuality?
Sexual attraction to, or activity with, someone of the same sex.
What is a nuclear family?
A family group consisting of parents and children only.
What is a single parent family?
A family group consisting of one parent and children only.
What is a same-sex family?
A family group consisting of parents who are the same gender and children only.
What is an extended family?
A family group including more than the nuclear family e.g. grandparents living together or nearby.
What is a blended family?
A family group that includes the parents and children from their previous relationships.
What is a parish?
A Church area cared for by a local minister/priest/vicar.
What is family planning?
A method of controlling the amount of children a couple has.
What is regulation of births?
Controlling the amount of children a couple has and when they have them (family planning).
What is artificial contraception?
An artificial method of controlling the amount of children a couple has.
What is situation ethics?
An ethical theory that making a decision should be dependent on the set of circumstances it is in.
What is divorce?
The legal ending of a marriage.
What is annulment?
A formal declaration that a marriage was not valid.
What is remarriage?
Another marriage after a previous marriage has ended.
What does equality mean?
Two people or groups of people are equal in status, rights and opportunity.
What is gender discrimination?
When someone has a different status, rights or opportunity because of their gender.
What is gender prejudice?
When someone is believed to have different status, rights and opportunity because of their gender.
