Year 2 Chapter 1: Circular Motion Flashcards
What must there be for circular motion to occur?
As there is acceleration, there must be a resultant centripetal force. The sum of all forces acting on the body= centripetal force.
What is centripetal acceleration?
The acceleration of an object in circular motion. Any object in circular motion must be accelerating as its direction, and therefore velocity, is changing
What is the centripetal force?
The resultant force acting on a body in circular motion. Always acts towards the centre of the object’s rotation
What is angular speed ω ?
A measure of the speed of the object’s angular rotation
What are some equations for angular speed ω ?
ω=v/r
ω=2πf
ω=dθ/dt
What is and what is the equation for a radian?
Radians are a unit of of angle
θ = s/r
s: arc length
r: radius
What are some equations for centripetal force?
F=mv^2/r
F=mω^2r
