Chapter 9: Newton’s Laws Of Motion Flashcards
Newton’s First Law
A body will remain in its current state of motion unless acted on by a resultant force.
Newton’s Second Law of Motion
When a resultant force acts on a body, it will accelerate in the direction of that force. F=ma
Newton’s Third Law of Motion
For every force acting on a body there is an EQUAL and OPPOSITE force of the SAME TYPE along the SAME LINE acting on a different body.
How do different applications of force affect velocity?
Object will speed up or slow down when a force is applied along its direction of motion.
Object will change direction when a force is applied at an angle to its direction of motion.
What is a free body diagram?
A diagram showing all the forces acting on a single body
