Outline the recruitment procedure.
Draw up a job description

Contents:
- Title of the job
- Place where the job is done
- Conditions/hours of work
Purpose:
- Defines main duties and responsibilities of the job
- Acts as a reference document

Contents:
- Essential: Candidates must have these in order to be shortlisted for interview
- Desirable: These are skills/qualifications that the employer would like but aren’t necessary. Increases chances of being hired
Purpose:
- To identify what an ideal applicant for the part should have in terms of personal qualities
Give the contents and purpose of the contract of employment.
Contents:
- Names of the employer and employee
- Hours of work
Purpose:
- Sets out the rights and duties of both the employee and employer
- Gives protection and security to the employee and employer

Advantages:
- New appointees are familiar with the business and the owners
- Creates promotion opportunities in the business
- Motivates staff
Disadvantages
- Causes further vacancies
- Range of applicants is narrow
- No existing staff may be suitable

Advantages:
- Range of applicants is wider
- New skills/ideas are brought to the business
- Doesn’t cause further vacancies
Disadvantages
- New appointee isn’t familiar with the business/owners

Advantages:
- Advertising in local newspapers doesn’t cost much
- Newspapers can reach a wide target audience
- Specific media outlets attract a range of skilled personnel

Advantages:
- Time is saved by the employer which is very useful when a temporary worker is required quickly
- Service can be very expensive
