conservative businessmen. 500,000 members and 400 chapters in the USA, argued that intervention would from gov’t regulation and threaten free enterprise. succeeded in the midwest, mostly.
free world association 1941
more diverse group that was pro-intervention in the war and wanted to stop facism while having allegiance to the allied powers.
pearl harbor
dec 7, 1941. 1st foreign attack on USA soil since war of 1812, japan was running low on fuel after being cut off from the USA and wanted to gain control of the pacific, though the USA was a roadblock. 18 ships sank, 2400 americans are killed and 1000 are wounded. all but one member of congress voted for war.

all japanese in the USA must relocation to internment camps (except for those in hawaii). violation of civil liberties.
korematsu vs. USA (1944)
argued that 9066 was unconstitutional, but the supreme court said that it was.
