How did the Nazi regime's actions affect human rights and influence global responses to genocide?
What were the ghettos that the Jews were put in?
- Meant to segregate them
- Conditions were harsh and inhumane
- Limited resources, forced to do hard labor
What did the ghettos turn into?
Deportation centers to concentration camps
What was the Warsaw Uprising? How did they get supplies? Why did they do it?
- 30 day long Jewish uprising against being deported to camps
- People in Warsaw snuck them weapons, or they made them themselves
- They knew they wouldn’t win but they wanted to uphold their pride and take some control back of their lives
What were the Einsatzgruppen?
Mobile death squads who rounded up people to kill
What was the “final solution” on how to deal with Jews?
Send them to concentration camps (6 million killed in all)
What was the War Refugee Board? (Hint: it was in the US)
US camp in New York for Jews, to try to protect them, and they weren’t allowed to leave these camps
What were the Nuremberg Trials?
Nazis on trial for war crimes, Allies were prosecuting them
What was the London Charter?
Since the Allies all had different ideas on how to carry out the Nuremberg Trials, they made this as an agreement on how to do it
