Wrong Direction Movements TW7 Flashcards
Horn code
What horn code would you sound when travelling in the wrong direction?
Series of short frequent high tone blasts on the horn.
Level crossings
Barrier crossing with closed-circuit television (CCTV), obstacle detection (OD) or remotely controlled crossing with barriers (RC)? During a wrong direction move, how would you approach this crossing with an attendant.
If you have been told that an attendant is on duty at the crossing, you must:
- Approach the crossing at caution.
- Pass over the crossing when authorised by a green handsignal.
Train speed
What is the maximum speed you are allowed to attain during a wrong direction move?
Except during single line working, you must always be able to stop within the distance you can see to be clear (Caution).
During the movement
When making a wrong direction move, what lights do you need to display in the leading & rear cab?
Under 400 meters there is no need to change the lights. Over 400metrers you need to display main head lights in the direction of travel and tail lights in the rear.
Level crossings
Barrow or foot crossing If you are told that any barrow or foot crossing with white-light indications will not operate normally for the movement, how would you approach the crossing?
You must approach the crossing at caution and check it is safe before passing over.
Module
What is the module for Wrong-direction movements?
The module for Wrong-direction movements is TW7
Signaller instructing the driver
What instructions will you receive from the signaller for a Wrong direction move?
The signller will inform you:
- What is required.
- How far the movement can go.
- To check, where possible, that points and crossings are set correctly for the movement.
- That any unworked points have been secured.
- To proceed at caution.
- The arrangements at level crossings.
Level crossings
Barrier crossing with closed-circuit television (CCTV), obstacle detection (OD) or remotely controlled crossing with barriers (RC) During a wrong direction move, how would you approach this crossing with NO Attendant?
You must stop opposite the signal protecting the crossing on the other line and get further instructions from the signaller.
If single line working is in operation the pilotman will tell you to:
- Approach the crossing at caution
- Not pass over the crossing until you are sure if it is safe to do so.
Level crossings
What does this sign mean?
Wrong-direction speed restriction boards are positioned on the approach to level crossings that have wrong-direction controls. You must control the speed of the train to comply with the speed shown between the board and the crossing.
Level crossings
Automatic half-barrier crossing (AHBC) If the signaller tells you that the crossing is being locally operated, how would you approach the crossing?
You must approach the crossing at caution and not pass over it unless authorised by a green handsignal shown at the crossing.
Automatic warning system (AWS) indication
During a wrong direction move, how would you deal with AWS indications?
You must disregard the AWS clear indications and acknowledge any AWS warning indication.
Level crossings
During a wrong direction move how would you approach a Crossing with red and green warning lights?
You must:
- Approach the crossing at caution.
- Stop short of the crossing.
- Sound the horn.
- Pass over the crossing only if it is safe to do so.
If the crossing has wrong-direction controls, you do not need to carry out these instructions unless the movement starts between the wrong-direction speed restriction board and the crossing.
During the movement
Without specific instructions (single line working) what speed must you approach points, switch diamonds or swing-nose crossings & what is your responsibility at these locations?
You must approach at caution, and check that they are in the correct position. You must not exceed 15mph over points or crossings.
Assist a failed train
When making a wrong direction move to assist a failed train, what lights do you need in the leading and trailing cabs?
You need main headlights on in the leading & trailing cab.
Driver getting authority
If authorised to make a wrong direction movement, from which cab must the train be driven from?
The movement must be made from the cab at the leading end of the movement. If there is no cab at the leading end of the movement you can drive from another cab as long as a competent person is available to control the movement.
