Q

If you have managed to contact the signaller, and he has confirmed the line is protected, do you need to lay emergency protection?

A

It depends on the situation. Ask the signaller for advice.

Q

You’re unable to contact the signaller. You reach a telephone linked to a signal box within the full protection distance, what must you do? When will you not need to continue the full protection distance?

A
  • Lay 3 detonators.
  • Contact the signaller.
  • You do not need to continue to the full protection distance if the signaller confirms that Signal Protection is being provided.

Q

What do you do if you reach a tunnel entrance before reaching the full protection distance? If the full protection distance is inside the tunnel, what must you do?

A
  • Place 3 detonators at the tunnel entrance
  • Continue through the tunnel to the far end and place 3 detonators there.
  • Note- You must always place 3 detonators at the entrance of the tunnel.

Q

Reaching a diverging junction: If you reach a diverging junction before you reach the full protection limit, what must you do?

A
  • Place 3 detonators before the junction.

Q

What do you do directly after a train accident?

A
  • You must immediately switch on the hazard warning indication where provided. If you cannot do this, you must display a red light forward.
  • Check if any other lines are obstructed (if in doubt, treat them as obstructed)
  • You must tell the signaller about the accident in the quickest way possible and whether the electric traction current needs to be switched off.
  • When the signaller tells you that signal protection has been provided, you must place a track-circuit operating clip on all affected lines.

16
Q

After laying Emergency protection can you return to your train?

A

Yes if the signaller has confirmed Signal Protection is being provided.

17
Q

If there is a fire on your train, what must you inform the passengers to keep them safe?

A

Tell passengers to:

  • keep calm.
  • Move if possible to vehicles which are not affected by the fire.
18
Q

If your train has had an accidental division, what must you do?

A
  • Find out whether anybody might have fallen from the train.
  • Secure gangway end doors, if you can do this.
  • Make sure passengers are in a safe position on the train.
19
Q

If there is an accidental division and the train cannot be recoupled, how would protect your train?

A
  • You must place three detonators 300 metres (approximately 300 yards) away from both ends of the rear portion.
  • You must then tell the signaller that the rear portion is to be left in the section.
  • Tell the signaller the exact location of the rear portion.
20
Q

If there is an accidental division and you could not contact the signaller, how far would you travel to speak to them?

A

If you have not been able to tell the signaller, you must not go beyond the next stop signal or block marker until you have told the signaller.

21
Q

How would you carry out a controlled evacuation?

A
  • You must tell the signaller that the train is to be evacuated and ask the signaller to provide signal protection on all lines that may be affected.
  • If necessary, you must also ask for the electric traction current to be switched off.
  • When the signaller tells you all signal protection has been completed, you must tell the guard.
22
Q

If you need to evacuate your train but cannot contact the signaller, what would be your actions?

A

If you cannot contact the signaller, or the signaller cannot provide signal protection, you must carry out emergency protection.

23
Q

What module is dealing with a train accident or train evacuation

A

The module name is M1
