Dealing with a train accident or train evacuation M1 Flashcards
When must you carry out emergency protection?
- The signaller cannot provide signal protection.
- You have not been able to contact the signaller.
- Your train has failed within a TBW or ESW section.
When signal protection has been provided, where must you place Track Circuit Clips?
- On every line that is obstructed
- On your own line if you entire train has derailed
Track Circuit Clips:
Do you protect other lines first, or your own? And when does it become the other way around?
- Protect other lines first.
- Protect your own first if your entire train has derailed.
If a train approaches the obstruction, how should you stop the train?
- Show a hand danger signal to the approaching train.
- Red flag
- Lay detonators
- Red light (any light violently)
- Rail Emergency Group Call
- Blast your horn (in distress)
Explain the order of protecting lines during Emergency Protection alone?
- Protect all other lines first
- Then protect your own line -If the entire train has derailed apply TCOC. -Always lay detonators.
Emergency Protection: Explain how/where to place detonators?
- Place 3 detonators, 20metres apart.
- 1.25miles(2km) from the obstruction.
- Stand 30metres away (face away).
If there is an obstruction, which lines do you have to put detonators on?
On every line which is obstructed.
What do you do if a train approaches before you are able to walk the full protection distance?
- Place 3 detonators immediately
- Display a red flag (or other hand danger signal)
If you have managed to contact the signaller, and he has confirmed the line is protected, do you need to lay emergency protection?
It depends on the situation. Ask the signaller for advice.
You’re unable to contact the signaller. You reach a telephone linked to a signal box within the full protection distance, what must you do? When will you not need to continue the full protection distance?
- Lay 3 detonators.
- Contact the signaller.
- You do not need to continue to the full protection distance if the signaller confirms that Signal Protection is being provided.
What do you do if you reach a tunnel entrance before reaching the full protection distance? If the full protection distance is inside the tunnel, what must you do?
- Place 3 detonators at the tunnel entrance
- Continue through the tunnel to the far end and place 3 detonators there.
- Note- You must always place 3 detonators at the entrance of the tunnel.
Reaching a diverging junction: If you reach a diverging junction before you reach the full protection limit, what must you do?
- Place 3 detonators before the junction.
- Decide which line the next train is most likely to come from and place 3 detonators there.
Emergency Protection:
Do you have to lay detonators during TBW & ESW?
At all times.
Which 5 times before your full emergency protection distance is reached, will you have to put your detonators down?
- Tunnel
- Train
- Telephone
- Diverging Junction
- Signal Box
What do you do directly after a train accident?
- You must immediately switch on the hazard warning indication where provided. If you cannot do this, you must display a red light forward.
- Check if any other lines are obstructed (if in doubt, treat them as obstructed)
- You must tell the signaller about the accident in the quickest way possible and whether the electric traction current needs to be switched off.
- When the signaller tells you that signal protection has been provided, you must place a track-circuit operating clip on all affected lines.
