Agonist: Biceps
Antagonist: Triceps

Active: ‘In anatomical position bring palms to shoulders’

Passive: Hold at elbow and wrist and bring hand towards shoulder

Resisted: Resist behind elbow and around forearm pull against client pulling hand to their shoulder

A

Agonist: Triceps
Antagonist: Biceps

Active: ‘Straighten arms back out to straight from shoulders’

Passive: Hold behind elbow and wrist and bring hand away from shoulder to straight

Resisted: Resist below elbow and behind wrist and push against the client whilst they push towards the bed

Agonist: Flexor carpi radialis
Antagonist: Flexor carpi ulnaris

Active: ‘With palms facing the bed, lift fingers to the ceiling’

Passive: With palms facing the bed, hold at wrist and hand to lift fingers to the ceiling (palm and fingers)

Resisted: With palms facing the bed, hold at wrist and resist hand to lift fingers to the ceiling

Antagonist: Supinator

Active: ‘Client needs their hands on the side with thumbs facing up and move hand so their palms face the ceiling’

Passive: Client needs their hands on the side with thumbs facing up, I move their hand so their palm faces the ceiling

Resisted: I hold the clients hand, they apply force to get their palm to face the ceiling and I resist them

A

Agonist: Supinator
Antagonist: Pronator teres

Active: ‘Client needs their hands on the side with thumbs facing up and move hand so their palms face the bed’

Passive: Client needs their hands on the side with thumbs facing up, I move the hand so the palm faces the bed

Resisted: I hold the clients hand, they apply force to get their palm to face the bed and I resist them

Ulna deviation

A

Agonist: Flexor carpi ulnaris
Antagonist: Extensor carpi radialis longus

Active: ‘Palms facing the sky, I ask them to move their fingers away from each other’

Passive: I hold at the palm and wrist and move the hand away from the midline of their body

Resisted: I hold their wrist on the outside and get the client to move their hand away from their midline by pushing their hand into my forearm

Radial deviation

A

Agonist: Extensor carpi radialis
Antagonist: Flexor carpi ulnaris

Active: ‘Palms facing the sky, I ask them to move their fingers towards each other

Passive: I hold at the palm and wrist and move the hand towards the midline of their body

Resisted: I hold their wrist on the inside and get the client to move their hand towards their midline by pushing their hand into my forearm

Antagonist: Extensor muscles

Active: ‘With hands flat out and palms facing up, squeeze hand into a fist’

Passive: Push hand into a fist

Resisted: Push each finger down with their palms facing upwards, the client applies opposing force
