A

Agonist: Iliopsoas+rectus femoris
Antagonist: Gluteus maximus

Active: ‘Bring knee towards chest’ (led on back)

Passive: Hold below knee and underneath foot and push knee to chest (led on back)

Resisted: Facing feet hold above knee whilst client pushes knee to chest (led on back)

Extension

A

Agonist: Gluteus maximus
Antagonist: Rectus femoris

Active: From knee at chest ask them to bring their leg to straight (led on back)

Passive:From knee at chest bring their leg to straight, hold foot and above knee (led on back)

Resisted: Hold above back of knee and achillies while they push a straight leg up (led on front)

Abduction

A

Agonist: Gluteus medius
Antagonist: Adductor

Active: ‘Bring your leg out straight and flat to meet my hand’ (led on back)

Passive: Hold opposite hip and achilles and bring leg out to the side (led on back)

Resisted: Dangle opposing leg off bed, resist against thigh and lower leg while client pushes their leg out (led on back)

Adduction

A

Agonist: Adductor
Antagonist: Gluteus medius

Active: ‘Bring your leg out straight and flat to meet my hand’ dangling other leg over bed (led on back)

Passive: Hold working hip and achilles and bring leg out to the side, dangle other leg over bed (led on back)

Resisted: Dangle opposing leg off bed, resist against inner thigh and inner lower leg while client pulls their leg in (led on back)

Internal rotation

A

Agonist: Psoas
Antagonist: Glute medius+minimus

Active: ‘Knee at 90 degrees, bring foot to my hand’ inner (led on back)

Passive: Hold top of knee and bottom of foot 90 degrees, move inwards (led on back)

Resisted: Hold top of knee and resist inside of foot 90 degrees (led on back)
