Wrist (3B/4A) Flashcards
Attachments of flexor carpi radialis (FCR)
- proximal = common flexor tendon at medial epicondyle
- distal = base of 2nd and 3rd metacarpals
Innervation of flexor carpi radialis (FCR)
Median nerve
Actions of flexor carpi radialis (FCR)
- flex the wrist (radiocarpal joint)
- radially deviate the wrist (radiocarpal joint)
- may assist to flex the elbow (humeroulnar joint)
Attachments of flexor carpi ulnaris (FCU)
- proximal = common flexor tendon at medial epicondyle (proximal-medial ulna)
- distal = pisiform, hook of hamate, base of 5th metacarpal
Innervation of flexor carpi ulnaris (FCU)
Ulnar nerve
Actions of flexor carpi ulnaris (FCU)
- flex the wrist (radiocarpal joint)
- ulnarly deviate the wrist (radiocarpal joint)
- assist to flex the elbow (humeroulnar joint)
Attachments of palmaris longus
- proximal = common flexor tendon at medial epicondyle
- distal = flexor retinaculum and palmar aponeurosis
Innervation of palmaris longus
Median nerve
Actions of palmaris longus
- tense the palmar fascia
- flex the wrist (radiocarpal joint)
- may assist to flex the elbow (humeroulnar joint)
Attachments of flexor digitorum superficialis (FDS)
- proximal = common flexor tendon at medial epicondyle
- distal = middle phalanx of 2nd-5th digits
Innervation of flexor digitorum superficialis (FDS)
Median nerve
Actions of flexor digitorum superficialis (FDS)
- flex 2nd-5th fingers (MCP and PIP joints)
- flex the wrist (radiocarpal joint)
the only muscle that can independently flex the PIP joints of the digits
Attachments of flexor digitorum profundus (FDP)
- proximal = anterior ulna
- distal = distal phalanx of 2nd-5th digits
Innervation of flexor digitorum profundus (FDP)
- 2nd, 3rd digits = median nerve
- 4th, 5th digits = ulnar nerve
Actions of flexor digitorum profundus (FDP)
- flex 2nd-5th fingers (MCP and DIP joints)
- assist to flex the wrist (radiocarpal joint)
Attachments of flexor pollicis longus (FPL)
- proximal = anterior radius and interosseus membrane
- distal = distal phalanx of thumb
Innervation of flexor pollicis longus (FPL)
Median nerve
Actions of flexor pollicis longus (FPL)
- flex the thumb (IP joint)
- flex the thumb (MCP and CMC joints)
- assist to flex the wrist (radiocarpal joint)
