Elbow/Forearm (3A) Flashcards
Attachments of biceps brachii
- proximal of the short head (can live without it) = coracoid process
- proximal of the long head = superior glenoid of the scapula (labium)
- distal = medial radius and biceps aponeurosis
Innervation of biceps brachii
Musculocutaneous nerve
Actions of biceps brachii
- flex the elbow
- supinate the forearm
- flex the shoulder
Attachments of brachialis
- proximal = anterior humerus
- distal = anterior ulna
Innervation of brachialis
Musculocutaneous nerve
Actions of Brachialis
- flex the elbow
Attachments of triceps brachii
- proximal of the long head = superior portion of lateral border of the scapula
- proximal of the medial head = posterior humerus
- proximal of the lateral head = posterior humerus
- distal = olecranon (three heads form a long, flat tendon)
Innervation of triceps brachii
Radial nerve
Actions of triceps brachii
All heads
- extend the elbow
Long head
- extend the shoulder
- adduct the shoulder
Attachments of pronator teres
- proximal = medial epicondyle
- distal = lateral radius
Innervation of pronator teres
Median nerve
Actions of pronator teres
- pronate the forearm
- assist to flex the elbow
Attachments of brachioradialis
- proximal = lateral humerus
- distal = radial styloid
Innervation of brachioradialis
Radial nerve (the only muscle on anterior aspect of the arm that is innervated by the radial nerve)
Actions of brachioradialis
- flex the elbow (weak elbow flexor; elbow stabilizer)
Attachments of anconeus
- proximal = lateral epicondyle
- distal = posterior proximal ulna
Innervation of anconeus
Radial nerve
Actions of anconeus
- extend the elbow (weak elbow extender)
Attachments of supinator
- proximal = lateral epicondyle of the humerus
- distal = anterior, lateral, proximal radius
Innervation of supinator
Radial nerve
Actions of supinator
Supinate the forearm
Attachments of pronator quadratus
- proximal = anterior, medial, distal ulna
- distal = anterior, lateral, distal radius
Innervation of pronator quadratus
Median nerve
Actions of pronator quadratus
- pronate the forearm
