Wounds and Inflammation Flashcards
What are the characteristics of Inflammation?
- Rubur (redness)
- dolor (pain)
- calor (heat)
- tumor (swelling)
- functio laesa (loss of function)
What is the vascular component of an inflammation?
Vascular component:
- The vascular permeability raises
- Vasodilation
- Endothelial injury
What is the cellular component of an inflammation?
Neutrophils extravasate from circulation to injured tissue to participate (teilnehmen) in inflammation through phagocytosis, degranulation, and inflammatory mediator release
Describr the acutr inflammation!
Akute:
Neutrophil, eosinophil, and antibody mediated.
Acute inflammation is rapid onset (Ausbruch, Beginn) - seconds
to minutes and lasts minutes to days
Outcome include complete resolution (Bewältigung) , abscess formation, and Progression (Entwicklung) to chronic inflammation
Describe chronic inflammation!
Mononuclear cell mediated:
Characterized by persistent destruction and repair.
Associated with blood vessel proliferation, fibrosis
Granuloma:
- nodular collections of epithelioid macrophages and giant cells
Outcome include scarring and amyloidosis
What means atrophy? What are the reasons of atrophy (6)?
Atrophy: reduction in the size or number of cells
Causes include:
- blood flow -down
- hormones vagina/uterus -down
- innervation -down (motor neuron damage)
- nutrients -down
- pressure +high (nephrolithiasis)
- occlusion (Verstopfung) of secretory ducts (cystic fibrosis)
