Wound Healing Flashcards
1
Q
What are the 3 stages of wound healing?
A
- Inflammatory stage
- Fibroplastic stage
- Remodeling stage
2
Q
What are the stages of inflammatory stage? Duration?
A
Usually last 1-5 days.
- Vascular=vasoconstriction of vessels and edema.
- Cellular=neutrophils destroy bacteria, material, damaged tissue.
3
Q
What happens during the fibroplastic stage? Duration?
A
Fibrin crisscross the wound forming latticework. Lasts 2-3 weeks.
4
Q
What are the stages of fibroplastic?
A
- Migratory=Epithelial migration, capillary ingrowth, fibroblasts migrate.
- Proliferative=Increase in epi thickness, capillaries contact counterparts, fibroblasts are lay down collagen.
5
Q
What occurs during remodeling stage?
A
- Collegen is replaced with new collegen.
- Increasing tensile strength
6
Q
What are the intentions of wound healing?
A
- Primary=Edges of wound are placed in same position before injury
- Secondary= Gap is left between edges of wound.
- Tertiary= Healing with tissue grafts to bridge gaps.
7
Q
What are the 3 nerve injury types?
A
- Neurapraxia: Injury like compression with no loss of continuity of axon or endoneurium.
- Axonotmesis=Injury like crushing that causes loss of axonal continuity, but not endoneurium
- neurotmesis= injury like laceration that causes loss of both axonal and endoneurium continuity.
