What are the 3 types of prescriptions?
- Over the counter: no prescriptions needed.
- Legend: Drugs with prescription form.
- Controlled=drugs requiring safegaurds like storage, limited refills.
What are Schedule I controlled substances?
Drugs that have no accepted medical use like heroin.
What are Schedule II controlled substances?
Drugs with high abuse potential with severe psychic or physical dependence. Like opium, morphine..
What are schedule III controlled substances?
Drugs that have less abuse potential than II and include certain narcotic analgesics. Like prescription strength Tylenol with codeine.
What are schedule IV controlled substances?
abuse potential less than III. Like Barbital, triazolam.
What are schedule V controlled substances?
Abuse potential less than IV. Like cough syrup.
What is Superscritpion and Inscription?
Super=Date, name, address.
Inscrip= Name and strength of meds.
What is Subscription and Signatura?
Sub=Directions to pharmacist
Sig= Directions for patient in plain terms.
