Q

What role did the U.S. play in WW2? How did the role change throughout the war? Did this policy contribute to the escalating tension throughout multiple fronts?

A

The U.S. involvement in WW2 involved 4 phases. The 1st phase is isolationism: the U.S is not going to get involved in any way. 2nd phase is the cash-carry policy: the U.S will give supplies but only when paid for upfront. 3rd phase is is the lend-lease act: the U.S will give supplies based on credit. 4th phase is the Japanese attack at Pearl Harbor at 12-7-41: the U.S is now fully involved at WW2. The U.S’ lack of involvement early in the war will make it difficult to win WW2.

Q

Explain Hitler’s plan to exterminate the Jews, slaves and Gypsies of Europe. Did the Holocaust accomplish Hitler’s goals? How did the concentration camps make the transition to the death camps of the early 1940’s?

A

Hitler’s plan involved 3 stages. The 1st stage was Kristallnacht: Hitler tried to scare the Jews out of Germany. The 2nd stage was the concentration camps: Hitler used the Jews as a slave labor force. 3rd stage was the extermination camps: this was the systematic killing of the Jews. No, Hitler was not able to kill all the Jews of Europe. The Nazis constructed gas chambers and ovens for the systematic killing of the Jews.

Q

What were the turning points of WW2? Were any events more significant than the others? Who was most responsible for turning the tide of WW2?

A

There are 5 major turning points of WW2. 1st turning point is getting involved is the attack of Pearl Harbor. 2nd turning point is the allied victory of the sea and the air. 3rd turning point is the Soviet defense of Stalingrad. 4th turning point is the allied victory in North Africa. 5th turning point is the invasion of Italy. I think think the most responsible turning point is the 1st one because we get fully involved in this.

Q

Describe the new military technological advances of WW2. What role will these new technologies play in the outcome of WW2? Did both sides have new technology?

A

WW2 technology will be the perfection of WW1 technology. Planes, tanks, and boats will go faster, further and carry more firepower. The goal of this new technology is to create more death and destruction. The new technology of WW2 includes aircraft carriers, radar and nuclear weapons. The U.S will be the only country to have nuclear weapons and as a result that will make us the world’s only military superpower.

The 1st peace conference will take place at Yalta. The allies were represented by Roosevelt, Churchill, and Stalin. The allies will divide Germany and Berlin into 4 sections, they will disband the German military, they will punish Nazi war criminals and they formed the United Nations. The 2nd peace conference will take place in Potsdam, Germany. President Truman took over for Roosevelt. These two peace conferences will lead to the Cold War between the U.S and the Soviet Union.
