Russian Revolution Flashcards
Why were the socialist ideas of Karl Marx so popular during the early/mid 1900’s? How will the political landscape of the world change as a result of the political differences between democracy and communism? Did countries such as Russia have any other options other than communism? Will communism/socialism have success in the long term scheme of things?
Marx’s ideas will become popular during the 1909’s because of industrialization. His ideas give more power and control to the working class. Because of the enlightenment, the 1800’s will be dominated by democracy and capitalism. Because of industrialization, the 1900’s will be dominated by communism. Russia had to industrialize quickly which communism allows. Industrialization will allow the Soviet Union to militaririse. Communism will exist in the Soviet Union from 1921 to 1989. Communism has proven to fail in the long term. It failed for 2 reasons: 1. Lack of competition 2. Lack of diversity.
During the Russian revolution, a civil war broke out between the Bolsheviks and the Mensheviks. What were the advantages and disadvantages of each group? Which group emerged victorious from the civil war and why? Was the winning faction’s philosophy the best suited plan for the serious problems of Russia?
The Bolsheviks were a small group of dictated revolutionaries. They were well organized with a clear plan. They had superior leadership with Lennin, Trosky, and Stalin. The Bolsheviks had a superior army in the red army. The Mensheviks were poorly organized with no clear leadership. They had no clear plan. The Mensheviks white army is inferior to the red army. The Bolsheviks will win the civil war do to their superior leadership. The Bolsheviks philosophy was the best-suited plan because they were aggressive and radical which is exactly what Russia needed. This will allow Russia to become an industrial and military power.
